About The human Beatbox Academy

The Human Beatbox Academy was founded by its creative director Jason Tom to provide and offer beatbox workshops and clinics throughout the 50th State known for the Aloha Spirit in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi, USA. The Human Beatbox Academy is an educational endeavor to fill in the void where and when needed to assist teachers and schools to empower, encourage and edify our children, youth, young adults, young professionals, and communities through the art of making music with our voice as an outlet for creative expression. The Human Beatbox Academy aims to develop, build self-esteem and confidence through these interrelationship skills. In 2006, the Human Beatbox Academy held its first beatbox clinic at Central Middle School and in 2008, a second one was held at Word of Life Academy. In 2010, DJ Kutmaster Spaz of Dis-N-Dat invited Jason Tom to host six back-to-back beatbox clinics at Waiau Elementary School. Shortly after, weekly workshops were held at the Diverse Art Center in Kakaʻako. On July 2011, the Human Beatbox Academy opened its doors with various partners under the ArtSmith umbrella at one of the Chinatown Artists Lofts inside the historic Mendonca Building within the Arts District of Downtown Honolulu. The first month of beatboxing classes in its Chinatown venue consisted of students ranging from ages 4-13 years old, covering foundation in mouth drumming, vocal scratches and vocal bassline techniques, scat singing, history, and the background of beatboxing. 2014, it offered it's final weekly sessions at Diverse Art Center. From 2013 through present the Human Beatbox Academy also offered a mobile educational clinic, one on one sessions, and sessions for an after school program.
