Story on this Gecko, Man

One of my early comic book character creations of approximately 25 to 27 years, during my second attempt at first grade when I moved to another elementary school and second grade through third grade, is Gecko Man. I drew Gecko Man then as a reflection of who I was as a child though in an adult body with a cape with superhero strength and capabilities like laser shooting powers from my hands with a superhero body spandex suit. Kind of like Spider-Man, Ice Man, Superman, and Batman. This Gecko Man character came to me when I put my hand on a pole and I felt warmth. I thought to myself, hmm, this doesn't feel hard like what a metal pole would feel like. Instead it felt soft and warm. So I looked under my hand was a gecko chilling on the pole even though I touched it. The gecko nor I were startled to my surprise, and I felt an immediate bond with this gecko. From there I felt like I had superpowers. I thought to myself then if I am to be an original superhero character, it would have to be Gecko Man. Geckos are known to make sounds, and I am also known to make sounds. I also associate geckos with positive thoughts and geckos are cool in my book. Then it hit me since last year, what if I am to revisit my Gecko Man character and have him be brought to life in this modern era as a reflection of who I am today as a musician, beatboxer and public speaker. Yes, Gecko Man, a music, public speaking and beatboxing mascot. So, though I am rusty with my doodling and drawing skills, I managed to sketch and doodle out roughly how Gecko Man could look today so that I could then have a better idea visually of this gecko character and then relay that over to the artist and muralist East-3 of Keep It Flowing Media, and I commissioned him with the great task to bring this gecko character to life.

Prior to this Gecko Man project that I am currently working on... I commissioned East-3 for the Jason Tom personal name logo as shown above. East-3 have also worked with clients Adidas, GQ Magazine, Kid Robot, Common and Echelon Clothing, DJ QBert and Thud Rumble, Illest, FatLace.com, Freelance Brand, Crazy Legs, Rock Steady CrewMighty4 Arts Foundation, Diverse Art Center, and many more.
